This classic 150 capacity, no-frills décor venue is steeped in musical history. Inside there's a mix of scattered wooden tables and leather Chesterfield sofas, with an upright piano for a traditional English pub feel. A large standing area in front of a good sized stage encourages intimate interaction with performers. Along with the main bar area, there's a small bar away from the main music area that gives people a chance to chat. This leads to a small outside smoking area. Low entry prices combined with a late bar (1am), with probably the cheapest drinks in the area, help to make it an attractive night out.

Introducing…. Jackal’s Backbone
Groove-injected extreme metal from North Herts
Jack Allen – vocals
Beccatron Swinney – bass
Jake Eaton – drums
Greg Neath – guitar
Sam Farrington – guitar
Jackal’s Backbone are a North Herts-based metal act, recently boosted to a five-piece, who have already gone down well with Herts’ metal fans and are looking to go further.
Blending death metal, sludge and grindcore influences, JB have proven themselves to be solid live performers and built a loyal local fanbase, . They currently have one EP available on Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify and other outlets, and are currently working on a follow-up. Extreme metal with a sense of groove, Jackal’s Backbone are recommended to any fans of the various sub-genres.
Here’s a handful of opinions about them from other members of the local scene:
“Their new expanded lineup only foresees promising things on the horizon. Faster, heavier and raunchier”. – Mark, Praetorian
“Heavy with a groove, always an energetic show.” – Jim, Skrugg/Phlefonyaar
“Jackal’s Backbone is a band that you have to see live to fully experience the power and intensity they bring to their specific brand of metal. It is surely a thing to behold, with Nathan’s extremely wide vocal range and Jake’s impossibly tight and tasteful blast beats.” – Joe, Dorylus
Perfect Cluster was founded in 2009 with the intention to play live electronic music and to experiment with synthesizers, unconventional guitar sounds, effected vocals and textural drumming.
The band's sound and style is heavily influenced by Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Kraftwerk and Nine Inch Nails though retaining it's own personality through the use of odd time signatures and extensive compositions, trying to blend catchy melodies with avant-gard like harmonies and song structures.
The members of the band all have a strong individual musical background, and it's such difference that leads to Perfect Cluster's unique sound, a tight and contaminated crossover between rock and electronic.
Riccardo Chiarucci, on vocals and electronics, owes his background to 90s grunge bands such as Pearl Jam and Nirvana along with plenty of house, techno and club music from the 2k scene. Currently he's involved as a singer, Dj and producer in several musical and multimedia projects such as To Eatalien, 2Eat and Symbiosi.
Luca Cecchi, on guitars, takes his musical inheritance from the great 70s rock bands, including Led Zeppelin and King Crimson. Sure enough he's the blues side of PC! Other musical projects and incarnations he currently works with include his own band Merrie Go Round and, since 2011, My Tin Apple.
Ian Da Preda, electronic drummer, vibist and synthesist, has payed his dues as a jazz vibraphonist, being this his current main activity, although he's also a music educator and, occasionally, a scorewriter. In his spare time he gets addicted to italian 50s-70s movies, and, most of all, their soundtracks!

THE FREAKS OF NATURE
Formed way back in 2012 before the world ended, The Freaks Of Nature were assembled just for the fun of it.
Within mere moments of forming, the buzz on the street was that these guys played some amazingly savage classic garage punk and roll. With all the swagger of a three legged dog, the boys have left a trail of throbbing insoles, confused grins and blown minds from one side of Phoenix to the other. Come to a Freak's gig and see for yourself what all the noise is about!
Formed of members from The Caezars, TV21, Green Hornets, Good Time Charlies, The Phantom.
Thee DB3 are Gentleman Drivers, engineering the finest in top fuelled garage-rock and slick surf sounds for your listening pleasure

This Californian songstress creates quirky Indie Pop. With a dark and playful attitude to writing music, her unique sound blends crystalline vocals with folk, electronica, orchestral instruments and a twist of magic. As a classically trained singer, she studied her craft in Germany. Bridging the gap between the traditions of Lieder and Arias and contemporary sounds, her songs celebrate the art of storytelling which gives them a sort of theatrical and cinematic feel.
Drawing her influences from other female artists such as Kate Bush, Beth Gibbons, and Tori Amos, Hazel Iris shies away from any one distinct genre and is blazing a musical path of her own.
Cheerful miserablists Squibs play English country-tinged psychedelic rock. With band members from various backgrounds in rock, pop and folk, and built around the dark and quirky songs of Dave Webster, Squibs offer something different. Songs of tenderness and rage, from the point of view of outsiders on the edge of life and sanity.

The four songs presented on her debut EP evoke powerful autobiographical experiences and stories from her life - each revealing different elements of the various genres that inspired her songwriting.
Inbal’s EP has been composed, produced and mixed in Brazil, Helsinki, London, Tel Aviv, Seoul and the United States. The record’s was produced by Inbal’s friend and colleague, Andreas Ravizzoni.

They are joined by servants of science, rising prog stars from Brighton.
Hats Off Gentlemen It's Adequate
"Original songs, well delivered, style, stage charm, a great voice and great bass playing. Bloody marvellous. The highlight of the weekend". e-festivals review of HRH Prog.
"Hats Off Gentlemen It's Adequate is an ideal example of what prog is; music that does not follow a traditional pattern or path but rather evolves. Hats Off Gentlemen manages to evolve both with every new album and every time you listen to the same album...there is so much there you can't take it all in on the first go-round." The Closet Concert Arena
Hats Off Gentlemen It's Adequate are recommended by Steve Hackett (Genesis) and were joint winners (along with Roger Waters and Alice Cooper) of the Beastie's Rock Show Album Of The Year Award 2017.
Sheffield based progressive rock band will be playing songs from the forthcoming album “A Leap into the Dark”.
The Tirith are a Sheffield based guitar-based classic prog rock band playing original material, this is song based Rock. The band has a long history (previously performing as Minas Tirith in the 1970s) but the present band reformed in 2010.
Guitarist Tim Cox has by Geoff Barton of Classic Rock Magazine as evoking the spirit of Gary Moore with his delicious solos and punchy power chords.
The music can be described as a fusion of Styx-like pomp rock with bluesy prog. Rock with a hard crust and a deep tremor in its heart.
“This is powerful, high quality material. Once they have finally punched a hole in the sky, Cox’s solo spirals out into the ether. A tale that is well worth the wait." Prog January 2016

Music - I get asked this a lot, and all I can say is that if you had my iPod on shuffle, you could find yourself listening to anyone from Enimen to Bob Dylan, or System of a Down, to Whitney Houston. Right now, and for the past 5 or so years my favourite has been Fun. The way they play around with words, timing, instrument combinations, and always manage to tug on the old heart strings, is phenomenal.
