Join us at The Fiddlers Elbow on Wednesday 12th December as we discuss mental health through Spoken Word & Hip Hop.

£1 from every ticket sale goes to Shelter to support their mission to help millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. They campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help.

As always, there will be the chance to donate on the night and Mind Over Matter will also make a donation.

Headlined by MC Angel, Tommy Evans and Grace Savage!

With ongoing support from BBC Introducing and listed as one of ELLE’s ‘100 Most Inspiring Women’, the electro-pop singer, songwriter and 4 x UK Beatboxing champion has kicked off 2018 to to a great start. Following the release of her debut EP “Savage Grace" in 2017 (grabbing tastemaker acclaim from THE405, WONDERLAND and CLASH Magazine among others), Grace was nominated for "Best Female Solo Act" and "Best Songwriter" at the Unsigned Music Awards alongside Ray Blk and Jorja Smith. Her track “Just For Tonight” was selected for the highly competitive spot on "Fresh on The Net Faves". She was selected from over 5,000 entries to compete in the Isle of Wight "New Blood” Quarter-Finals alongside 40 other live acts. Her first single of the year ‘Headlights’ was made track of the day on CLASH music, followed by a premiere on "The Line Of Best Fit" with her cover of The Cardigans 1998 classic "My Favourite Game". She celebrated the launch of her follow up EP "Control Freak" with a packed show at the Sebright Arms shortly followed by a RedBull Live Session and an "Introducing feature" in the Metro. Grace performed at a string of festivals this summer including Beatherder, Shambala, Latitude and Fieldview. She also managed to find the time to squeeze in a TEDx talk at the Royal Festival Hall in front of 2,000 people and has just had her latest single “Running Under Water” play-listed on Radio 1 as BBC Introducing Track Of The Week. She is currently in the studio working towards her debut album.

Hailing from a family of artists and architects, innovation, imagination and industry are embedded in Tommy Evans' DNA. In his decade long career as a pioneering musician, he appeared on over forty releases; managed a record label; collaborated with multi-platinum and underground artists alike (Neneh Cherry, Martina Topley-Bird, Stereo MCs, Nightmares On Wax, Andreya Triana, Plan B, Kano and Doc Brown to name a few); featured on Radio 1, MTV, Soccer AM and the "Kidulthood" soundtrack; supported and performed with artists like De La Soul, Common, Corinne Bailey-Rae and the godfather of hip hop, DJ Kool Herc. Tommy even counted Rio Ferdinand and Kylie (Minogue, not Jenner) as fans and had his voice sampled (more than once) by the late, great J Dilla!

As of April 2018 he is "Dr. Evans" having been awarded his PhD in Applied Linguistics. Tommy's debut poetry collection "Medusa Wore A Weave (Or: In The Absence Of Magic)' is released 26th November 2018.

The open mic is hosted by our partner, Miss Yankey. Founder of Poetry Prescribed.
